As a component of a larger visual modernization, Liquid Glass was introduced across Apple's platforms and was inspired by the reflective and refractive qualities of real glass. The update follows a flood of user feedback expressing concerns about previous iterations' excessive transparency making interface elements difficult to read.
However, its early adoption in iOS 26 beta 1 caused usability issues, particularly in places like the control center where the background was so translucent that it became visually distracting to elements on the home screen.
Apple reduced control center transparency in beta 2 to allay those worries. These changes are extended to other areas of the operating system in beta 3, most notably the interface and notifications in third-party apps like Apple Music.
