Elon Musk's Tesla finally started launching its driverless Robotaxi service in Austin after ten years of broken promises. However, only a small number of content producers and social media influencers who are said to be linked to the business were allowed to ride the initial few rides.

Musk stated on X that the initial riders will pay a fixed rate of $4.20 per journey; however, it is still unknown what the long-term pricing structure will be. At the moment, robotaxis are only accessible in a geofenced section of the city between the hours of six in the morning and midnight.
Some of the initial riders uploaded terms of use, which state that in inclement weather, the Robotaxi service may be restricted or unavailable. The debut of Robotaxi was the "culmination of a decade of hard work," according to the CEO of Tesla.
Additionally, he said that both the software teams and the AI chip that powers Robotaxi were created from the ground up at Tesla.

Videos of people testing Robotaxis on social media shortly after Musk's formal announcement showed a Model Y SUV making short trips with just one passenger in the back seats and no driver in sight.
Challenges:
According to Reuters, Texas lawmakers sought to pass an act known as autonomous vehicle laws, which would need a state authorization to operate self-driving cars, ahead of Tesla's scheduled launch date. Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, signed the legislation on Friday, and it will go into effect on September
1. Additionally, the law grants the state the authority to cancel permits for operators it determines pose a risk to the public. Although Musk has pledged to swiftly expand Robotaxi service to additional US locations in the near future, Tesla has not yet disclosed when the service would be open to the public.
Particularly in Austin, Robotaxi faces competition from Google's Waymo, which is already up and running alongside Uber, and Amazon's Zoox, which is also conducting trials there.
