Due to the possibility of youngsters becoming trapped in the back seat, Ford Motor is recalling around 200,000 cars in the US. 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a software bug in a car with a low battery might cause the electronic door latches to stay locked after the driver has closed the front door, potentially trapping a person in the rear seat who is unable to operate door handles.

The safety organization cautioned that the unplanned lock-out could cause severe injuries, particularly in hot temperatures.

2021–2025 Mustang Mach E vehicles are among the 197,432 vehicles recalled. According to a recall report, Ford estimates that the problem is present in 100% of the vehicles.

The carmaker advised customers to bring their cars to Ford dealers so that the software may be updated for free.

By June 23, letters informing car owners of the recall will be mailed, and on September 29, when the fix is ready, a follow-up letter will be sent, according to Ford. 

After at least six customers—including two drivers with children in the back seat—reported having problems opening the rear door after getting out of the car, the NHTSA contacted Ford in January regarding the software bug.  According to Ford, on June 3, the defective part was removed from manufacturing.

According to the automaker, there have been no complaints of accidents or injuries linked to the software bug. According to Ford, there are a few indicators that drivers should be aware of in order to prevent the lockout.

For instance, after shutting off the vehicle, drivers could observe that the SYNC screen either becomes blank or shows a warning that the system is disabled to preserve power. 

 They might also observe that in order to escape the car through the front door, the interior release handles must be pulled farther than usual.
